Clinicopathological Investigations Among Recurrent Camelpox Outbreaks in Omanis’ Arabian Camels (Camelus dromedarius)

Camelpox remains a widespread viral disease in camelids, with socioeconomic relevance. The present study explored the hematological, biochemical, and histopathological alterations dromedary-racing camels from North of Oman infected camelpox virus diagnosed by real-time PCR. Blood skin samples were collected clinical signs lesions (n=4) healthy (n=3) 10 different camel herds. results indicated that showed signs, including pyrexia, lacrimation, nasal mucus discharge, affixed swollen eyelids, emaciation, pimples on head, legs, abdomen. Hemoglobin, hematocrit, platelets significantly greater, significant reduction leukocyte lymphocyte counts than camels. Infected had higher CK creatinine levels hepatic-related metabolites, AST, ALP, GGT, LDH, apparently Histopathological examination scab revealed ballooning degeneration epidermal cells presence typical large eosinophilic intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies suppurative dermatitis following secondary bacterial infection all examined DNA was detected using PCR blood These findings associated molecular diagnosis are described for first time Sultanate Oman. Therefore, further studies warranted.
